Voices of Munich is a children’s and youth choir based in Munich, bringing together around 50 singers aged 9 to 17.
The choir rehearses twice a week, working on multipart repertoire from a wide range of periods and cultural traditions. At the heart of this work are a nuanced ensemble sound, vocal flexibility, and an increasingly independent approach to the score and musical interpretation.
Concerts, opera productions, competitions and international tours are not an addition to the programme, but an integral part of the ensemble’s artistic work.
Since the ensemble was founded, its artistic development has been shaped by Maksim Matsiushenkau. His work centres on a nuanced choral sound, clarity of interpretation and the musical independence of the young singers. Repertoire and projects are not planned in isolation, but as part of the ensemble’s long-term artistic development.
The repertoire of Voices of Munich ranges from early music to contemporary choral works, and from a cappella repertoire to concert and opera productions with orchestra. Stylistic breadth is never treated as an end in itself.
Programmes grow out of musical ideas and contrasts: different periods, languages and sound worlds can meet and reveal unexpected connections. What matters is that every work has something of its own to say — and gives the choir the freedom to arrive at an interpretation unmistakably its own.
A project matters to Voices of Munich when it takes the choir forward musically, brings committed artistic partners together and gives the ensemble a meaningful role.
Eight cities and eight concerts in Tianjin, Beijing, Xi’an, Jinan, Qingdao, Wuxi, Shanghai and Shenzhen — at major venues including Tianjin Concert Hall, Xi’an Concert Hall, Wuxi Symphony Hall and Shanghai Symphony Orchestra Concert Hall.
